The Three “T’s” of Philanthropy

Many things in life live through acronyms.  In sales they say ABC- Always Be Closing, Life Coaches tell their clients to GROW- Goals, Reality, Options, Will, and  TED Talks weren’t just created by a guy named Ted, it stands for Tell me, Explain to me, Describe to me. Whaaaaat!!

In philanthropy we live by three big T’s: Time, Talent, and Treasure

Time: Your time is one of the most valuable things you can give. Time can be used to listen, learn, and assist your community in ways you can’t imagine. Volunteering is the most popular way to use your time to better your community. Attending seminars and conferences and bringing what you learned back into your community helps more than just your place of business. Take the time to listen to the complaints you hear from your peers and use what you’ve learned to create a solution.

Talent: Your talents are unique, show them off! Contact your community foundation or non-profit of your choice and ask them what kind of opportunities they have to best suit your expertise. Your unique set of talents can be used to benefit any cause you can think of.

Treasure: No, we aren’t talking gold doubloons in a wooden chest, we’re talking about charitable donations (big or small) that can be used to better your community! Without the donations non-profits receive, nothing would be accomplished. Look into your favorite cause and see where your treasures would be most valuable!
