News: Top 5 Ways the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne Impacted our Community in 2016

 

Number 5: Granted over $2 million to local non-profits through the Community Impact Fund

As a Community Foundation we spend every day working to improve the lives of everyone in Allen County, and our true efficacy and success lies in our ability to leverage the giving of many to make the greatest possible impact. In 2016 we granted over $1 million directly from the Community Impact Fund and supported 40 non-profit organizations that work every day to make our community a better place to live, work, and play.

Number 4: Provided 8 free educational workshops for local leaders of non-profit organizations

Nonprofits are the backbone of our community, and the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne helps provide the fortification to keep them healthy and strong! With education comes knowledge, which leads to stronger, more viable nonprofits. In 2016 we offered 8 free workshops led by local experts to help nonprofits maximize their impact, strengthen their organization, and gain valuable ideas to help safeguard their resources.

Number 3: Awarded 250 Scholarships to Local Students

As the cost of college continues to rise, so does the financial need of many students. In 2016 we provided scholarships to 250 students, empowering educational attainment and empowering hundreds of local youth to achieve their dreams.

Number 2: Played the lead funding role supporting the creation of a strategic plan for the Community Health Improvement plan for Children:

Throughout 2016 Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne has provided assistance to Dr. McMahan and the volunteers who developed the CHIP program. We will continue to support these efforts in the future and support CHIP’s mission to foster and facilitate the development of a collaborative multidisciplinary infrastructure to improve the health and wellbeing of our children.

Number 1: Granted/committed over $3.5 million to support Riverfront Fort Wayne

Riverfront development in Fort Wayne is a placemaking initiative that is inspiring our city to collectively reimagine and reinvent the public space at the heart of our community – our rivers. As of the end of 2016, the Community Foundation has granted/committed over $3.5 million to support Riverfront Fort Wayne development and programming, including: major contributions to feasibility studies, riverfront survey work, the Middle Waves concert festival, project design and schematics, and a connectivity meeting with international placemaking experts, Gehl Studios.
