Building a Better Future: Community Collaboration Brings Hope to Vulnerable Children

It truly takes a community. We love sharing stories about how we fulfill donors’ wishes by connecting them with causes they care deeply about. The Better Futures Clinic, established to treat children who have experienced suspected abuse, is a testament to this community-driven approach.

The clinic emerged from the collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals who recognized a pressing need and worked together to address it. After months of strategic planning and partnership-building, the Better Futures Clinic was founded to provide comprehensive care for vulnerable children.

The clinic addresses children’s medical, emotional, and developmental needs. It monitors physical healing, offers counseling and therapy, and supports overall well-being. Additionally, it provides training and awareness programs for healthcare professionals, educators, and the broader community.

The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne was approached and quickly recognized the critical need for funding this project. After further investigation, it became clear that supporting the clinic was a perfect fit for the Isaac Campbell Kidd Fund. Dr. Bill Lewis, a distinguished neonatologist and co-founder of the Parkview Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, created the fund to support programs that prevent child abuse and neglect. Supporting the Better Futures Clinic honors Dr. Lewis’s legacy and fulfills his vision of helping children in our community.

The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne is dedicated to connecting donors with meaningful causes that uplift our entire community. By funding the Better Futures Clinic through the Isaac Campbell Kidd Fund, we fulfill our mission to make a lasting impact, ensuring every child receives the care and support they need to heal and thrive.

Other partners and funders of this project include the Parkview Health Foundation’s Shaffer Trauma & Emergency Services Fund, the Mary Cross Tippmann Foundation, and the Professional Emergency Physicians.
