For #GivingTuesday 2017, Fort Wayne Youtheatre was one of the four recipients of the Community Foundation’s surprise #GivingTuesday gifts.
We checked in with them to see if they had anything to say about last year’s gift and what it meant to them:
“It was such an incredible surprise! The Community Foundation popped into one of our rehearsals so the children were part of a great celebration. The children felt like they had won the lottery in receiving the #GivingTuesday gift last year.
We are a smaller organization so this generous gift was really impactful. We used it to extend our free preschool and after school programming. It also freed up general operational costs that helps us improve the overall quality of our productions and free Storybook Tours. This autumn’s free Storybook Tour was The Shuddersome Tales of Edgar Allen Poe. The Poe tour had 8 performances and reached over 400 audience members. Three where open to the public at the Allen County Libraries, two of which were at Parkview Behavioral Health and Parkview Hospital and three were at Woodside school and Saint Elizabeth’s. Woodside prepared for the show by having the students study the work of Edgar Allen Poe as part of their English unit.

For #GivingTuesday this year, we are doing the #GivingTuesdayFW Challenge. The Community Foundation is encouraging nonprofits to raise funds for their endowments held at the Community Foundation between October 19th and November 18th, 2018 at 11:59 pm. The top raising nonprofit in each of our giving areas (Health & Human Services, Youth & Education, Arts & Culture, Community Development) will be receive a surprise unrestricted gift from the Community Foundation on #GivingTuesday November 27th, 2018.
