Fort Wayne, IN (October 19, 2018) – Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne announces a nonprofit sustainability challenge for #GivingTuesday in an effort to help raise funds for nonprofit endowments. Starting Friday, October 19, 2018 and running through Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 11:59 pm, the Community Foundation challenges all nonprofits that hold endowment funds at the Community Foundation to raise money for their endowments to increase their own financial sustainability. The Community Foundation will match gifts that are contributed to eligible* funds by 20% and the four top-raising organizations (one in each priority area: Health & Human Services, Youth & Education, Arts & Culture, Community Development) will receive a surprise unrestricted gift from the Foundation on #GivingTuesday, November 27, 2018. In an additional effort to support nonprofit sustainability, the Community Foundation is also launching the Nonprofit Endowment Building Toolkit. This toolkit, available for any current nonprofit endowment fund holder, is both a training program and a resource designed to build the confidence of nonprofit board and staff members to intentionally and enthusiastically grow the organization’s endowment to sustain their mission forever.
“With the instability in government grants, the transfer of generational wealth and tax laws changing, it’s essential for organizations to have a long-term plan for sustainability,” says Alison Gerardot, Director of Philanthropic Services. “We have such great organizations throughout our community, doing really vital work to improve lives in our community, and we at the Community Foundation want to be a resource to help nonprofits in becoming sustainable for the long-term, and a piece of that is endowment building.”
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
