News: Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne Gives $50,000 to Allen County Emergency Relief Fund

March 19, 2020 – Fort Wayne, IN – The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne has given $50,000 to the United Way of Allen County Emergency Relief Fund. The Emergency Relief Fund has been created in response to the COVID-19 outbreak happening across the globe. Community members are feeling the impact of the outbreak as it continues to spread and close down local businesses.

“We applaud and support the leadership role of United Way of Allen County through the guidance and direction of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Deb McMahan and others on the front lines,” said Brad Little, President and CEO of the Community Foundation. “We feel strongly that United Way is uniquely positioned to work closely with direct service providers and organizations to get resources into the hands of those most vulnerable who need help quickly.”

United Way of Allen County will be assembling an Emergency Relief Fund Advisory Committee to provide guidance for the fund and where dollars will go. All proceeds for the Emergency Relief Fund will be directly invested back into the community.

“We look forward to working with United Way CEO Matthew Purkey, and the Emergency Relief Fund Advisory Committee assembled to provide assistance and guidance to the grantmaking process,” said Shannon Hardiek, Board Chair of the Community Foundation.
