One of the oldest parts of Fort Wayne could be the scene for one of its newest developments – and the Community Foundation is helping to make it happen.
The Fort Wayne Downtown Development Trust, working with the Model Group of Cincinnati, has announced plans for a $37-million project that will bring commercial, retail and residential units to The Landing on Columbia Street. The area dates back to the early 1800s and contains a treasure trove of Fort Wayne history (including the fact that Thomas Edison lived in an apartment on the street in 1864).
The Community Foundation provided a $1.2 million loan to the Downtown Development Trust to acquire several parcels of property, which were packaged together into a single project developed by the Model Group. The proposal will now go seeking financing from the Legacy Fund and the Regional Cities initiative.
The Community Foundation is proud to play a role in helping to support the success of this exciting downtown project.
