The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne launched the Pioneer Grant Opportunity, a new grantmaking program for 2022 focused on finding new nonprofits to partner with doing grassroots efforts in our community. The application opened on March 1, 2022.
Supporting grassroots organizations is an important part of the philanthropic ecosystem. The Because We Love Our Community grant program is a challenge grant for interesting and engaging ideas to improve the community’s quality of life and livability and increase residents’ satisfaction and community attachment.
Because We Love Our Community grant projects should increase the quality of life, community attachment, and satisfaction by increasing Allen County residents’ easy access to:
Safe places to live and work
Healthcare facilities and services
Quality job opportunities
Affordable housing
Safe, proximal, high-quality recreational areas
Quality arts and cultural events
Priority will be given to projects that promote equity, and incorporate policy, advocacy, institutional/systems change, and/or social justice (equal rights, opportunity, and treatment for all).

During 2022 the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne is celebrating 100 years of serving Allen County as a public charitable foundation. The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne does three things: help people make their charitable giving more impactful, connect funding to nonprofits through effective grantmaking, and provide leadership to address community needs to improve quality of life. Every day we connect people and resources to build a more vibrant community. As of December 31, 2021, the Community Foundation held charitable assets of approximately $222 million and awarded more than $8.1 million in charitable grants and scholarships throughout the same year. Since its formation in 1922, the Community Foundation has awarded more than $175 million in charitable grants.
